The present invention identifies and employs certain types of transport proteins that are useful for exporting Hyaluronan (HA) polymer out of foreign bacterial hosts with utiity in HA manufacture. In this embodiment, these transporters allow the use of a HA synthase catalyst derived from Gram-negative bacteria, PmHAS, in a more preferable Gram-positive bacterial host bakground such as Bacillus.
